Checking Linux Dirty Buffers

Sometimes you're tired of waiting for disk I/O, for instance for long running operations on a USB drive, and want to know how much data still needs to be written. Use this command to watch the changes as they occur:

watch -d grep -e Dirty: -e Writeback: /proc/meminfo

If you only need to do a quick peek, you can use this command:

grep -e Dirty: -e Writeback: /proc/meminfo
